Lower Back Pain Relief

In Search of Lower Back Pain Relief

Lower back pain usually has different causes than pain in other areas of the back.  The lower back supports the entire upper body so it serves different functions and has altogether different stresses than the rest of the back.  The lower back takes on the majority of the stress from everyday activities.  Since the human body bends and rotates at the waist, the lower back is most affected by most body movement.  Protecting the body’s core and your lower back is essential to maintaining healthy body movement.  The most common causes of lower back pain are lumbar strain, nerve irritation or different types of bone and joint conditions such as arthritis.

A lumbar strain occurs when the ligaments, tendons, or muscles of the lower back are stretched too far and become strained.  Usually, muscle or ligament tissue tears as a result of overuse.  Sometimes this happens as a result of improper use, motion or accidents.  Lower back pain can result from something as simple as slouching in a chair. But oftentimes the cause is more traumatic and requires evaluation by a doctor.

The most effective way to achieve lower back pain relief is pain medication, rest and time to allow the back to heal.

Massage and heat therapy can soothe lower back pain as well.  After the lower back strain has healed, exercises should be performed to strengthen the muscles of the lower back and hopefully reduce the incidence of future injury and lower back pain.  Effective exercises will help long term with lower back pain relief.  Safe exercises will not only strengthen the muscles in your back, they will help you become a healthier person overall.

A total cure for lower back pain does not yet exist.  Although there are several medications and methods out there that are very effective in providing lower back pain relief… there is still no cure.

Any one remedy, such as medications, massage, heat or exercise may give one lower back pain relief for hours or days but most times lower back pain will reoccur.  Even though you may find your most effective remedy for lower back pain relief, the reoccurrence of lower back pain can cause physical, mental and financial stresses.

Some have found that massage therapy gives them lower back pain relief.  This form of treatment can give you relief for a period of time.  However, it usually does not stop the pain from coming back.

There are those that have had real success with acupuncture.  Acupuncture seems to really be a very effective treatment for lower back pain relief.  This treatment has been around for a centuries and is thought by people all around the world to be a great method for providing lower back pain relief.

If you are not patient enough to wait for natural cures and methods to take effect, you can opt to deal with your lower back pain using medical prescriptions or over the counter pain medications that are legal and safe as long as they are properly used.

According to physicians, the best over counter medications are NSAIDS, (Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Pain Medication), which are pronounced, en-saids.  These meds are available over the counter, will help reduce inflammation and in doing so provide lower back pain relief.  A few examples of NSAIDS are Aspirin, Voltaren, Advil, Motrin, Nuprin and Aleve to name just a few.

Cortisone injections are also an effective treatment for lower back pain relief.  This treatment attacks inflammation at the source of your lower back pain.  In some cases, where lower back pain is severe, surgery remains the only real course of action for lower back pain relief.
